Fast rides, magical lights & tradition

Welcome to the Hamburg DOM

When Heiligengeistfeld is transformed into a glittering sea of lights, the scent of roasted almonds and fresh caramel fills the air, and the giant Ferris wheel towers over St. Pauli like a landmark, then it's DOM time in Hamburg again. Generations gather here to marvel, laugh and be swept away by the unique mix of nostalgia and thrills. Whether it's a thrilling ride on the roller coaster, a stroll through the colorful booths, or a sampling of new delicacies, the DOM is a feast for all senses and a place where memories are made.

From church walls to fairground fun

The history of Hamburg's DOM dates back to the 11th century. At that time, the imposing St. Mary's Cathedral was not only a shelter from the elements, but also a meeting place for merchants, craftsmen and jugglers. Despite ecclesiastical skepticism - and even a temporary ban by the archbishop - the market remained an integral part of city life.

When the church was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century, the showmen moved to various parts of Hamburg until they were given a permanent home on the Heiligengeistfeld in 1893. The medieval market thus evolved into Northern Germany's largest folk festival, which today delights millions of visitors with its three editions in spring, summer and winter.

Hamburg's festival for all your senses

Much more than just a funfair, the Hamburg DOM is a reflection of the diversity of the city and its people. More than 250 performers regularly transform the Heiligengeistfeld into a world of color, light and sound. Generations meet here, discover new attractions, enjoy classics like lard cake or roasted almonds, and are surprised by spectacular rides and changing themed worlds. Every visit is different - and yet always a piece of living Hamburg tradition.
