Media Bunker Feldstraße
Hamburg's concrete giant with a view & attitude

In the middle of St. Pauli, a massive concrete colossus rises up into the sky - the Feldstraßenbunker. Once a shelter and flak tower during World War II, the reinforced concrete giant has been transformed into a vibrant center for creatives, night owls and nature lovers. Here, history, culture and green innovation come together to create a unique Hamburg experience.

A giant with history

Walking along Feldstrasse, you can't miss the bunker at Heiligengeistfeld, which looks like a stranded spaceship from another time. Its massive walls tell of dark days - built in record time in 1942, Flak Tower IV was once a bulwark against bombing raids and a refuge for tens of thousands. But instead of falling into disrepair, the concrete giant in the heart of St. Pauli has reinvented itself.

Creative minds, loud nights

With the end of the war, the bunker began a second life. What had once offered shelter became a testing ground for visionaries: in the 1950s, the first "Tagesschau" news bulletin was broadcast from here; later, musicians, artists, and media professionals moved in.

Today, it is home to a creative network of recording studios, design offices and galleries. The "Uebel & Gefährlich" is legendary - a club whose concerts and parties are talked about far beyond Hamburg. If you're lucky, you'll hear the sounds of classical music in the "resonance room," which is supported in its own way by the thick bunker walls.

Urban jungle with a vision

But the bunker is not resting on its laurels. With the "Green Bunker", Hamburg has set a spectacular example for urban nature: Where anti-aircraft guns once stood, an urban rooftop garden with trees, shrubs, and wild meadows is now growing.

Visitors climb the distinctive outdoor staircase - the so-called "mountain path" - to the green roof, enjoy the panoramic view over the city, and discover hidden retreats among lavender and apple trees. Up here, the big city meets gardening bliss - and the gray memorial has a new look.

For current opening times, guided tours and events, we recommend taking a look at the Media Bunker's official website. This way you are well informed and can plan your visit in a relaxed manner - for a unique experience in the heart of Hamburg!
